Dr Raymond Odokonyero is a psychiatrist at Mulago National Referral Hospital and a
lecturer at the College of Health Sciences, Makerere University. He completed a
Bachelors degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) and a master of Medicine
degree in Psychiatry (MMed) at Makerere University.
Clinically, he has been a supervising Psychiatrist with Peter C. Alderman Psycho-
trauma Clinic in Kitgum District, and as well a supervising Psychiatrist at the
Mildmay centre for treatment of HIV patients’ outreach clinics in Buwama,
Luwero and Kisubi. He is a registered Medical Doctor and Mental Health
practitioner with experience in heading the admission mental health wards. He is
comfortable working with multi-disciplinary teams.
Dr.Odokonyero’s core competencies include; excellent analytical skills,
proactivity, customer orientedness and the capacity for troubleshooting and
solving complex issues. He has outstanding oral and written communication skills,
training development and facilitation skills. His soft skills include; good
organization skills, rigor, flexibility, and the ability to work with multi-disciplinary.
Dr. Odokonyero’s research interests include; HIV and mental health, Post-conflict
mental health and Community level interventions. He is currently in the process
of expanding his research interests to include HIV and Substance use disorders
among young people.
Raymond is a writer for local newspapers for the opinion column, in which he
writes topical mental health issues. His book entitled “Retainer Formula: Defining
your financial life” was described by the re-known Canadian Educator Dr. Opiyo
Oloya described as “… part poetry, part pep talk, shrewd and observant of the

In 2013, he started Amono’s Pride Foundation whose goal is to inspire and
motivate youths to live their lives to their full potential. He does this mainly
through motivational speeches, life coaching, mentoring and seminars. He has
made several presentations on various topics on mental health and Finances to
Rotary clubs and corporate organizations around the country.
